Google Home App Reviews

Basically, it’s spamware

Open the app, Google insists that you wade through a list of apps and content it thinks you should have. Instead of easy access to your devices, Google cannot restrain itself from annoying hucksterism. By the way, Google, Home asks me to install YouTube so that stuff will open in the app. It’s already installed. Trying to reinstall it does nothing but offer a button to open it.

Bug bug after bug

Each day since I have the google home I need to restart the application. My internet is functioning but google home don’t have access ! To the internet. Try to find a solution but so fare I was not able to fix the problem. So again today I delete google home to reinstall it and it’s work well until I close it!

Gets worse and worse

I constantly have to reset my tv and reconnect it to Google Home just to watch YouTube or Spotify

Great, with a few weird bits

Overall I am enjoying the app, but I think some of my most-used settings and functions are hard to find and located in lots of different places, including outside of the Google Home app itself. An update that streamlines navigation would be welcome!

Hard to use

Not user friendly.

Buggy and inconsistent

I’ve owned 2 Google Home’s since they first launched a year ago, and I am continually blown away with the poor quality of their software and the Google Assistant AI. Over the past year, it has gotten much worse at being able to correctly identify when it is being spoken to, even with no other noise in the room. And the 3rd party “skills” are almost all useless and the voices sound terrible and rarely work correctly if at all. This app is even worse. It has a horrible user interface that changes constantly in small ways, making hunting down particular settings hard to find under the best of circumstances, but even harder when they suddenly move a preference to a new area. The current version of the app is also buggy and thinks one of my Google Home’s is somehow a Chromecast and prevents me from accessing its settings forcing me to factory restore the Home 3 times now and still no luck. As for the “Home” part - home control is a joke compared to HomeKit and I have given up trying to use to actually CONSISTENTLY manage and control a home. The fact that things break in this app or move around all the time, coupled with the worsening performance of the Home hardware and it mistakenly waking up despite no one speaking the wake phrase, has convinced me Google doesn’t belong in the hardware business. And their demand that you let them track you on the web and across their services (including your location) to even use the Home is disingenuous). They claim it needs to know everything about you to provide you with the best experience, except it is hopelessly stupid and over the last year I’ve seen ZERO evidence that the data google has been gathering is doing anything to help me and more likely is just helping them profile me to know how to sell me out to advertisers. I’ll be getting Apple’s HomePods as soon they come out and tossing these pieces of crap out. PS If you want to see how a well thought out Home control product should work, look at HomeKit and at Apple’s Home app. With HomeKit I have control locally with the ability to logically assign rooms, floors, zones, and groups and to create automations and scenes. Google can’t do anything other than assign devices to a room. No further grouping, no native automation, and the biggest hole - no scene creation and no central app for controlling my home. This Home app is so frustratingly useless compared to Apple’s Home app for HomeKit. HomeKit is a well thought out solution that is in a different league than Google’s bare minimum effort that rarely works like you would hope or expect.

Google chrome app cant be projected on tv

Please update

Disappointed update

After last update, it finally included a function to refresh the linked Philips Hue devices. But after today’s update, that function is gone. Now, as it was before, to add new bulbs, I have to unlink the Hue account, lose all the room and bulbs settings, then relink it and set the rooms and bulbs all over again. This is a disaster update. Another issue is when I use voice command to ask one home or home mini to play some music on my chromecast enabled speaker, I can only ask to stop playing it from the exact same home/home mini, other home/mini has no clue of what its sibling is doing. This is so inconvenient. Now, I only hope that Apple HomePod can release sooner

Just want to cast, dont want all the google crap

Why cant I just have the little cast button on apps instead of google watching my every move, suggesting apps and such?

سيء لللايفون

البرنامج سيء مع الايفون ممتاز جدا مع الاندرويد

Good, but needs more work

Adds a little too many suggestions, and needs to be easier to add devices

Phone

Ability to add, store or delete phone numbers and addresses of contacts would be a huge upgrade to the unit. 911 major plus. Cannot connect to any of my Samsung TV’s without buying another Google unit. Pretty lame, I was told by the Salesman at London Drugs that all TV makes work.

Works great with my iPhone 7

I thought that I was going to have some short of issues when I switched from my Android, I didn’t think that this App would be compatible, but so far so good. I haven’t had any issues at all and everything has been running smoothly (knock on wood). I also noticed that there are more channels and Apps available, and Google home is great for when I go out of town and hooks up easily when I need it for it.

Dont Update

The newest update requires you to sign in to a google account just to control your Chromecast. No thanks Google! Chromecast works great during the 50% of the time that it actually appears in an app that has chromecasting. Now I have to walk over to the TV to reboot it the other 50% of the time. Come on Google, fix this once and for all! And stop trying to control our lives by having to sign in to an account just to reboot our Chromecast!

Can’t connect to my devices

I did the update and now it’s says something went wrong and not my internet just for some reason it connect to my hue lights and WeMo smart plug I know they both work because I can use them thru there apps but I consider in buying the Alexa echo plus hopefully that won’t have much problems ?

Terrible!

Difficult to impossible to navigate! The worst!

Confusing and redundant

App doesn’t add much to the google universe. Just one more place for google to rack up hits
