Basically, it’s spamware

Open the app, Google insists that you wade through a list of apps and content it thinks you should have. Instead of easy access to your devices, Google cannot restrain itself from annoying hucksterism.

By the way, Google, Home asks me to install YouTube so that stuff will open in the app. It’s already installed. Trying to reinstall it does nothing but offer a button to open it.
